Dr. Daphne Penn

Dr. Daphne Penn is a visiting fellow in education at Harvard University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She earned her B. S. in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University, an M. S. in Sociology from Purdue University, and her Ph.D. in Education from Harvard University. As a sociologist of education, her teaching philosophy and research interests are driven by the belief that, in order to understand and address the root causes of educational inequality, we must examine schools as a microcosm of society. In her role as an educator, Penn's primary objective is to provide students with a framework for understanding how the sociopolitical context of schools shapes the work of educators as well as the educational experiences of youth from historically marginalized backgrounds.
